Barefoot Luxury in Paradise – The Moso Vanuatu
Updated: Nov 28, 2019
All year long I have dreamt about escaping to an island where I could lay peacefully on crisp white sand overlooking turquoise waters all day, leisurely sipping on a cocktail. The only thing that would disturb me would be the occasional rustling of palm trees or a waiter offering to top up my drink.
When I read about The Moso Vanuatu, I thought it was too good to be true. I had no idea such paradise still existed – yet alone a short 2.5 hour flight from Australia. It looked like all my dreams had come together and manifested in this gorgeous island, just north of Efate in Vanuatu.
Being situated on the edge of the water, The Moso Vanuatu is a tranquil beach-front exclusive resort with white coral sand, the bluest of blue water and the perfect amount of shade offered by banana trees and coconut palms. Whether you want to sit by the ocean (or on the over-water hammocks!) with a good book for days, or be a little bit more adventurous with snorkelling, canoeing or exploring the island – it’s all right at your fingertips.
From stepping off the plane in Efate I was filled with apprehension of whether this seemingly utopic destination could live up to my expectations – but after a short journey by car and boat onto the secluded island, I realised it was everything, and more.
The hosts, Joel and Antoun, are extremely passionate about ensuring all your troubles are taken care of and you have the most amazing time at The Moso. From greeting us with a glass of champagne as we stepped off the boat and taking us to our gorgeous villa, within a few hours of kicking off my shoes and my feet touching the sand – I felt like I had been on holidays for weeks!
Set up against a hill and anchored by a pool, The Moso Vanuatu has five equally stunning villas. The villa’s are filled with endless interior inspo – think polished concrete floors, whitewashed walls and the Hamptons meets the Tropics inspired decor. Every single corner was extremely instagrammable – as you would have been able to tell by my endless holiday spam!
The villa’s living spaces open up onto the stunning view of the ocean that’s at your doorstep – but can also be screened in for those wanting total privacy on their getaway. Two of the villas have their own plunge pool and outdoor bath – just another excuse for newly weds to not leave the room on their honeymoon!
The Moso Island is surrounded by the clearest turquoise water and an abundance of marine life which makes for fantastic snorkelling on one of the many pristine beaches.
Wander across to the other side of the island there is the most magical remote beach which was our favourite during our stay. You can sit there for hours without seeing another soul – and feel like you’re the only ones on earth.
The Moso sits between the villages of Tassiriki and Sunae. If you make the short walk over, you’ll be welcomed with the biggest smiles like you’re a long lost friend.
Joel and Antoun’s successful background in hospitality shines through when it comes to dining at The Moso. The ever-changing menu draws inspiration from the local culture and the abundant fresh produce that is on offer. The meals are always exciting and creative combinations that never cease to surprise me with how perfectly they work together.
From locally caught yellowfin tuna, lobster and crab – paired with tropical fruits such as papaya and mangoes that grow in abundance, the dishes are elegant, fresh and truly local.
The dining options alone are enough of a temptation to make me a regular! If you don’t have the time to stay at The Moso during your time in Vanuatu, I strongly suggest making a day trip out there and to try some of the incredible food.
